This seven‑story above grade with full‑basement multi‑family community in Portland’s Goose Hollow neighborhood is designed as a contemporary, transit‑oriented urban residence. The entire building is residential, with a welcoming ground‑level lobby and tenant amenities supporting a mix of studio, one‑bedroom, and larger homes above. A two‑story base in dark brick establishes a strong, durable edge at the sidewalk, while generous glazing and integrated canopies provide required pedestrian weather protection and create a sheltered, active entry experience for residents.portland

 

Above the brick podium, the upper floors are wrapped in metal panels that subtly tilt outward, introducing a distinctive rhythm and depth to the façade. This calibrated canting of the exterior wall differentiates individual bays and visually breaks down the scale of the mid‑rise massing, giving the building a refined, contemporary presence on the street. Working closely with City planning and urban forestry staff, the design team developed a comprehensive strategy for preserving adjacent street trees and coordinating construction around root protection zones in accordance with Portland’s tree standards. The result is a streetscape where architectural canopies and protected street trees work together to provide long‑term canopy coverage, supporting resident comfort and the city’s broader urban canopy objectives.
